YouTube TV plans user interface redesign in 2022: YouTube TV, Google’s live-streaming TV service, is planning a major platform redesign later this year.
YouTube TV plans: In a blog post, YouTube Chief Product Officer Neil Mohan mentioned the service’s 2021 updates, including a 4K add-on package and offline viewing, hinting at what’s to come.
“I’m pleased to announce that this year, we’ll be launching a new design that will further streamline the user interface, including updates to the Library and Live Keys, giving our viewers more control over How they organize and watch their favorite content. An even smoother experience,” he wrote.
Unlike a similar blog post last year when he revealed that YouTube TV had more than 3 million subscribers, Mohan did not provide updated subscriber numbers for Virtual MVPD. According to a recent estimate by Light shed Partners, the service now has more than 4 million subscribers, compared to Hulu + Live TV, which only reached 4.3 million.
Mohan also hinted at other connected TV updates coming to YouTube, such as an upcoming feature that will let viewers use their phones to engage with the content they watch on their televisions.
Google has been putting a lot of effort into positioning YouTube as a connected TV app and as a result has a huge audience outside of mobile. By January 2022, the average viewer is watching more than 700 million hours of YouTube content on TV every day, the company said.
“And in the coming year, we want to give these viewers easier navigation and even more interactivity. One of the ways we’re doing that is with a device that’s always within reach: your phone.” Soon, we’ll be unveiling a new way for viewers to use their phones while they watch YouTube on their TVs to read or leave comments, share videos with friends and more,” Mohan said. wrote
